These climates are extreme opposites of each other! What works in nearly any other state or climate won't work in the desert. In Arizona, an annual rainfall of less than 10" and having high heat for most of the year, requires a totally different mindset when it comes to raising food, using and storing water, and surviving intense weather conditions.
