The most important thing in a ‘prepared house’ is the attitude you and your family have; plus, the skills you have as a family. Studies show that the people who survive emergency situations are the ones who have a positive attitude - a determination to survive. Those who sit back and wait for rescue, who expect someone else to take care of them, usually will not survive. Just by searching out and reading this website shows you have a survival-oriented attitude. But it is also important to remember that ‘survival of the fittest’ doesn’t imply surviving on your own. It takes a neighborhood working together to actually grow, to thrive, to become more than what is possible for one person or family alone. Just as a neighborhood watch can reduce crime, neighborhood preparedness can reduce problems in emergency situations.
The purpose of this website is to provide a forum where we can share some of the knowledge and skills needed to not only survive, but to thrive during the hard times of life – whether a short-term emergency such as the loss of a job or the aftermath of a natural disaster, or a long-term emergency such as a great depression or even war.
However, once you begin this learning process, the second most important thing is to put that knowledge into action. Buying garden seeds and storing them away, but never actually planting a garden is not learning to survive and thrive. Watching a video on how to use a sun oven, but never purchasing one or, if you do, never taking it out of the box, is not learning to thrive. Each skill you learn adds to not only your own survival, but to those who are most important in your life: your family, your friends, your neighborhood.
